Actually, Speculum of the Other Woman is a full-length work by Luce Irigaray (Ithaca, N.Y. : Cornell University Press, 1985), which is not really the source of the text that the characters are reading in the "Close Reading" sequence below; the actual piece they are reading from (and hearing differently) is Irigaray's short article "This Sex Which is Not One", in Elaine Marks and Isabelle de Courtivron, Eds., New French Feminisms NY: 1981 pp. 99-106... but I couldn't resist the image of trying on the speculum and finding that it doesn't fit!
